Hill destinations of Bangladesh
From Bandarban's peaks and Boga Lake to Sajek's cloud sea, Kaptai Lake, Jaflong, Ratargul and the tea gardens of Sreemangal.
Bandarban
Bandarban is the highest and wildest of the Chittagong Hill Tracts districts, and the base for most serious pahar (hill) travel in Bangladesh. From the Chimbuk ridge road to the remote Thanchi river route, this is where you find cloud-level viewpoints, Marma, Mro and Bawm villages, and the country's best-known waterfalls and mountain lakes.

Cox's Bazar
Cox's Bazar carries the world's longest unbroken sea beach, but the stretch south of town is where the coast meets the hills — Himchari's cliffs and cascades, the Marine Drive, and the rocky shelves of Inani and Patuartek.

Habiganj
Habiganj is the quiet corner of the Sylhet division: rolling tea estates around Chunarughat, and two of the country's best remaining forests. Come here when Sreemangal feels crowded.

Khagrachari
Khagrachari is the gateway to Sajek Valley, the most photographed viewpoint in Bangladesh, where the valley fills with a sea of cloud at dawn. The district itself adds caves, waterfalls and hill roads that most visitors rush past on the way to Sajek.

Moulvibazar
Moulvibazar district is Bangladesh's tea country, and Sreemangal is its capital — hills of tea bushes, rainforest trails at Lawachara, and the seven-layer tea that was invented here. It is the easiest hill escape from Dhaka and the most relaxed.

Rangamati
Rangamati is the lake district of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Kaptai Lake spreads between forested hills and island villages, and almost every trip here happens on the water — a full-day country-boat circuit is the classic way to see the district.

Sunamganj
Sunamganj is water country. Tanguar Haor, a Ramsar wetland below the Meghalaya hills, is best experienced from a houseboat over two days — sunset on open water, a night under stars, and the Jadukata river and Shimul Bagan on the way back.

Sylhet
Sylhet city is the base for Bangladesh's most photogenic day trips. Within two hours in any direction you reach clear rivers running out of the Khasi hills, a freshwater swamp forest you paddle through, and white stone beds under the Meghalaya escarpment.
