How to reach Bandarban

  • Dhaka to Bandarban by night coach takes roughly 8–10 hours.
  • From Chattogram (Chittagong) city the drive is about 3 hours.
  • Inside the district, hill routes to Ruma, Thanchi and Nilgiri need a chander gari or 4WD jeep — private cars are not suitable.
  • Treks to Boga Lake, Keokradong, Nafakhum and Amiakhum require permission at local army/police check posts and a registered local guide. Carry your NID or passport.
  • October to February gives clear skies and cloud-sea mornings; the monsoon brings the waterfalls to full flow but makes hill roads difficult.
  • Mobile coverage disappears beyond Ruma and Thanchi — download offline maps and confirm plans with your guide in advance.

Bandarban travel FAQ

What is the best time to visit Bandarban?

October to February for clear views and comfortable trekking. June to September is the peak season for waterfalls such as Nafakhum, though roads and river routes can be affected by rain.

Do I need a guide for Boga Lake or Nafakhum?

Yes. Both routes require a registered local guide and permission at check posts, and boat sections from Thanchi must be arranged locally.

How many days do I need?

Two nights covers Nilachal, Chimbuk and Nilgiri. Boga Lake or Nafakhum realistically needs three to four nights from Dhaka.
